7 Tips - How to create an attractive interactive presentation in Power Point or similar program.

Almost everyone needs to create a Power Point or similarly interactive presentation at one time or another. While a professional design that strengthens the branding of your company is a great way to accomplish a dynamic and great looking presentation, here are some tips that can be applied to presentations created in-house to make non-designers look very good:

  1. Use a template: this will help all your slides and pages look similar and part of the same presentation.
  2. Limit the use of colors: use your corporate colors and maybe a couple of highlight colors, but no more than 3-4 colors throughout the presentation.
  3. Limit the use of fonts: select a couple of good working fonts, a bold one for headlines and a lighter one for text and stick with those.
  4. Limit the use of font sizes: Select a size for headlines and a size for text and don’t alter sizes throughout the presentation to “fill space”. Consistency is the key to looking professional.
  5. Resist the urge to try all the special effects: an elegant presentation uses a transition between slides and another for animated images or text, but be consistent with the effects. If you try them all, your presentation may start to look like an amateur wedding video. So unless you have a specifically cool reason to do it, exercise some "animation control".
  6. Do not distort images or logos: If you enlarge or reduce the size of an image, be sure to do so proportionally. Squeezing an element horizontally or vertically to fill a space only creates a strange-looking and generally unattractive graphic. Never ever distort your logo.
  7. If possible, invest in having a custom template created for your company, over which you can build your future presentations with ease and style.

What makes a good logo?

A good logo is essential for a business to grow and develop as an established and respected brand. It's the foundation of the image of any business and a building block to successful corporate identity. The following questions can help you figure out if you have a good logo or if it’s time to work on some improvements.

  1. Does your logo represent the image of your business? Your logo should reflect  the style and “flair” of your business and its image should be relevant to what you do so that your audience and clients can relate and remember it.
  2. Does it stand strongly against your competition? Your competition must be carefully studied to make sure your logo is unique and well positioned within your industry.
  3. Does it have a distinct personality? Your logo should be an intelligent mark that introduces your business and provides a first and lasting impression. Its personality should be clearly defined and easy to understand.
  4. Is it well executed, clean and does it use good typography? Your logo should be well designed, attractive, clean, and simply a beautiful mark. The accompanying typography should be well thought-out and impeccably selected.
  5. Does it feature a color palette that goes well with your  business? Your color palette should help communicate your business concept. From modern and fun to elegant and formal, feminine, natural, nautical, your colors should be studied and combined to match your message.
  6. Does it work well in large and small sizes? Your logo should be versatile and practical so that it works on a small piece like a business card, or on a large one like a trade show display. Vector based logos tend to be easier to enlarge and reduce without any loss of quality.
  7. Is your logo easy and inexpensive to reproduce properly? A simple and clean logo will generally be easier to reproduce and remain true to the original design from websites and brochures, to uniform embroidery and environmental signage. The more complex the artwork (photos, faded backgrounds, gradients, etc), the more difficult it will be to reproduce your logo and to keep it looking uniform and consistent all the time.
  8. Will it stand the test of time? Finally, a classic design will usually last throughout changing fashion trends which can make your branding investment wiser overall.
